WEST NEWTON WINDROW

West Newton Windrow distills and adapts an agricultural armature  to benefit a family home in the dense neighborhoods of West Newton. Tasked with creating a vibrant garden, privacy and enclosure, and maintaining open space for gathering and lawn games on a postage stamp lot, creativity was necessary in order to "do more with less".  The main garden space occupying the edges of the property were inspired by agricultural windrows, crucial visual screens and reservoirs of complex natural communities. Trees, shrubs, and perennials are mixed in a tight linear footprint, creating and enhancing an illusion of planting depth the site doesn't actually allow for. The structural complexity and plant species throughout the new gardens create crucial habitat supporting pollinators, insects, birds. The life cycles of the plants and the species they support make for an ever changing garden experience through the seasons, supporting and bringing joy to both clients and community.
